OUR commitment

For five decades, SMCF has championed the nonprofits that care for San Miguel’s people, culture, and environment. Our work spans health and bell-being, food and nutrition, education and youth, arts and culture, local enterprise, and environmental sustainability.

As we look to the next fifty years, we remain steadfast in caring for our most vulnerable neighbors, expanding opportunity, preserving our cultural heritage, and protecting the natural resources that sustain us all.

Despite San Miguel’s vibrant image, many residents are struggling, especially those living in low-income neighborhoods and rural communities.

  • One in three households lacks adequate access to healthcare.
  • One in four families experiences food insecurity each year.
  • More than 18,000 residents live in rural communities with limited essential services.
  • Nearly 40% of youth do not complete secondary school.
  • An estimated 12,000 stray animals strain already-limited local resources.
  • Fewer than 10% of local nonprofits have access to the professional tools and support they need to grow their impact.
