Education & Youth

As San Miguel grows, access to quality education and youth support is more important than ever.

Without early childhood support, after-school programs, scholarships, or vocational training, children and teens risk being left behind. In a city known for its cultural richness and international community, ensuring youth have access to strong education and opportunities is critical for lasting, inclusive growth.

Supporting SMCF Network Nonprofits focused on education and youth programs helps break cycles of poverty and open pathways to a better future.

Across San Miguel de Allende, educational opportunity is strengthened by organizations working at different but equally critical stages of a child’s development. Escuela de Educación Especial de San Miguel de Allende, led by President John Doherty, and Fundación Comunitaria Don Diego, under the leadership of President Juan Manuel Correa, represent two longstanding community partners ensuring that children and families have access to learning, support, and opportunity regardless of circumstance or geography.

For decades, Escuela de Educación Especial de San Miguel de Allende has transformed outcomes for children with hearing disabilities. Students who once faced isolation within traditional classrooms now receive comprehensive academic instruction, vocational preparation, and creative development in an environment designed for inclusion and success. SMCF funding strengthened the school’s outreach efforts to identify hearing-impaired children earlier in life, connecting families to diagnosis, medical care, and specialized education at the moment intervention has the greatest lifelong impact.

Beyond the city center, Fundación Comunitaria Don Diego serves as an educational and social anchor for an underserved rural community where access to learning resources remains limited. Its campus provides after-school programming, computer access, community library services, and safe recreational spaces that support both students and their families. Through SMCF grant support, critical technology infrastructure was upgraded, stabilizing digital access and expanding educational opportunities that reach far beyond the classroom.

Together, these organizations reflect how sustained community investment, early intervention, and accessible learning environments create pathways for young people to participate fully in San Miguel’s future.
