The challenge is intensified by mounting environmental pressures. As drought conditions and water scarcity worsen across the region, traditional agriculture and local food production are increasingly unstable, placing even more families at risk.

For many elderly residents and vulnerable families in San Miguel de Allende, So Others May Eat (SOME) provides far more than meals. It offers consistency, reassurance, and human connection for individuals living quietly at the margins of a city often associated with abundance.

Serving seniors, individuals living alone, and households facing economic hardship, SOME addresses food insecurity that is rarely visible but deeply felt. Regular access to nutritious food allows recipients to maintain health, independence, and dignity, particularly for older adults whose limited mobility or income can make daily nourishment uncertain.

Led by a committed network of local volunteers, the organization has become a trusted presence across the community, delivering not only food but companionship and continuity. For many participants, these programs represent one of the few dependable points of support in their weekly lives.

Through SMCF grant support, SOME expanded its sustainable food production capacity, enabling the organization to provide reliable sources of protein throughout the year rather than relying solely on fluctuating donations. This shift strengthens long-term household stability while allowing the organization to serve more residents with greater consistency.
