A Homecoming of Hope
In the hills around San Miguel de Allende, where housing instability often shadows everyday life, one SMCF member nonprofit is turning dreams into doorways. For over two decades, Casita Linda has been building dignified homes for families in extreme poverty.
In early 2025, the organization was featured in major press for its unique model of international collaboration. A group of American teenagers raised over $20,000 and travelled to San Miguel to build alongside the recipient family, a vivid example of how generational volunteering and cross-border SMCF giving can transform lives.
Each Casita Linda home is more than shelter: it’s a foundation for education, health, and community stability. One recent milestone: home #150, celebrated in 2024, underscored the organization’s scalability and local roots.
The SMCF Partnership
The San Miguel Community Foundation has been proud to support Casita Linda’s growth and impact. Through targeted grants, SMCF has helped fund building materials, site preparation, and the eco-friendly “Lego-style” construction system that reduces water use by up to 70% while accelerating build time.
As one of Casa Linda’s earliest supporters, we’re thrilled to report that the organization has achieved 501 (c)(3) status, evolving into a regional model of sustainable housing, community empowerment, and social responsibility.
Why It Matters
In San Miguel’s broader nonprofit ecosystem, Casita Linda stands as a powerful example of what happens when grassroots organizations are amplified by strategic support. By providing secure homes, the ripple effect touches children’s education, family health, and community vibrancy.
At SMCF, we believe that when one organization rises, all boats rise. Casita Linda is leading that lift.
